Who Will Write the Forward for Fortify My Life?

sand castleI am excited to announce who will be writing the forward for Fortify My Life~! From the time when I first realized I was writing a book, and not just a big pile of letters to “Dude”, I started to wonder about the fun details that go into completing a book: the dedication, the epigraph, the endorsements, and a REAL biggie, the forward.

Now, here I am with a publisher and a completed manuscript, and I have dreams for this creation. As long as I can dream as big as I want, I figured I would think about the very best people to write the forward, trusting God will help me complete what we started. I came up with three “dream” options in my mind. They were all equally and uniquely perfect, but one of them I really don’t know personally (though I would love to, maybe some day~!). The other 2 options felt like possibilities, but still maybe too good to come true.

But, which of these options to ask? Hmnnnn. I couldn’t decide. Somewhere along the line, I have seen a book with 2 forwards. Is that an anomaly, or does that happen often? I don’t know. But, inspired by that vague recollection, I threw chance into the air, and decided not to decide. I would ask BOTH, and see what God brings back to me. Well, I think you are already guessing. BOTH said YES~! I’m so blessed~! So? Who are they?

The first to get back to me are Trish and Jack Groblewski. To my great delight, these guys are the pastors of my home church, New Covenant Christian Communinty Church (AKA: NC4), in Bethlehem, PA. NC4 is a vibrant growing church with a diverse body. Jack and Trish are internationally apostolic, and speak on other continents on a regular basis.  I think of Pastor Jack as being a leader to leaders, a pastor to pastors. He is genius smart with mind boggling discernment. He is also crazy-funny and quotes rock-n-roll from the altar~! The messages we get at New Covenant are spiritual steak~! I am seriously spoiled to get to go to such a smart and fun church. Trish is prophetic and has a heart for healing. She is uninhibited with God, and has sparkling eyes that can’t hide her secret wild side. These two were praying for me when I received the Holy Spirit, back in 2000. Click this link to see them being interviewed by Pat Huber. The topic of the interview is Trish’s diagnosis and healing of breast cancer, 2011. Here is a link to the New Covenant messages, where you can hear them each speak in our home church setting, and you can learn more about NC4.

The other forward writer is Leif Hetland. This guy is a world changer with a worldwide ministry. He is as bold as Apostle Paul. My mouth drops when I hear about his travels to other nations. Leif is roughly our age, but Brook and I think of him as a “spiritual father” to us. He spoke at a conference at our church when we were very near a church-burn-out phase. Leif’s messages (love, healing, identity, dignity, dreams, passion) lit a fire in our souls that has continued to burn hot for 7 years now. He has prayed with us about some very important topics, and there has been a spiritual shift.  Leif on youtube –  This is a powerful video with Leif talking about being abused as a child, and then recovering from addiction, only to have an unpleasant time living as an international minister (always trying to work work work for God’s approval). THEN, the great break-through: how God filled his heart with love, and he no longer felt like God’s orphan, but His legitimate son with a power message about Father God.   Click this link to go to Leif’s “Global Mission Awareness” Website where you can buy his books, and check out his ministry and speaking schedule .

See how much God loves me~! He is spoiling me with two powerful forwards from people I can hardly believe I have the honor to know~! I haven’t seen the forwards yet. They aren’t even written yet. Oh my goodness, it feels like the anticipation of Christmas~!

Until Tomorrow……

I wanted to post about who will be writing the forward to my book, Fortify My Life. But, I couldn’t pull together all the information that I wanted to assemble, with links and video. So, until tomorrow…… (I hope?).

I’m actually not much of a procrastinator, but I got a kick out of this image. It made me chuckle. So, here’s a tiny touch of humor, and I’m off to bed.

As a bagpiper, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper’s cemetery in the Kentucky back-country. As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost; and being a typical man I didn’t stop for directions. I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch.

I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late.

I went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place. I didn’t know what else to do, so I started to play. The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around. I played out my heart and soul for this man with no family and friends. I played like I’ve never played before for this homeless man. And as I played ‘Amazing Grace,’ the workers began to weep. They wept. I wept. We all wept together.

When I finished, I packed up my bagpipes and started for my car. Though my head hung low, my heart was full. As I was opening the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, “Oh My~! I never seen nothing like that before, and I’ve been putting in septic tanks for twenty years.”

Two More WONDERFUL Book Endorsements~!

I have received two more WONDERFUL endorsements from local ministries. These are from people I know well. People with whom I have gone out to eat. With whom I have laughed and prayed. I respect them for the unique ways they like to reach out to people. Links to these ministries are below the two endorsements.

David Michael Donnangelo

Without question, what comes to mind when I think of Laurie is patience, wisdom, and a discerning spirit.

In her book Fortify My Life, you can for sure expect a reflection of these qualities in her narratives and helpful stories that will keep you pondering about Jesus, life, and purpose. Because she walks out these qualities in her daily life, these qualities in her are the best examples of a Christian character that encourage and help many people through her writing.

Laurie lives out what she expresses by “faith” on paper, helping those in most need and keeping many thinking about their life with Jesus. She not only lives out God’s Dream for her own life, but she echos through empathy, and helps through genuine concern, the life expressions of many who ordinarily would give up, but instead move forward to a better future of hope and grace through Christ Jesus.

David Michael Donnangelo – Author of: Dreaming God’s Dreams & Director of: Kingdom’s Keys Ministries

One of the things we love most about Laurie is her ability to reach people no matter where they are. This book is a necessity in everyone’s collection because it will intrigue the unbeliever to a level of desire that they never knew God put in their hearts, and it will spark hunger in any believer no matter what level their walk is to seek God’s Word even deeper.  Laurie’s compassion and love for all people truly exemplifies her walk with Christ, and we cannot wait for the book to come to print so that we can share with others!

It can be so easy to forget that our every day lives contain great beauty. Eric Bowman is a very talented painter who shows us some of what we should be noticing in our everyday lives~! Here are 2 paintings, and 2 details that bring me awe.

And the day you find out why…

I am re-blogging today, a 1st for me. I like the basic concept of Everyday Power’s blog post. I also believe people are born for a purpose, probably many layers and stages of purpose along the way. But, it seems like folks can get stuck in the rut of wondering what that purpose might be, feel like they are being ineffective, and then become inactive and discouraged. While I don’t believe we always need to find out exactly why we are here in “specific detail”, that sure can be an encouraging bonus~!  (Hint: love God, and imitate God.)
We can actually have more influence than we’re aware of, sometimes by accident, and even by a random occurrence. Brook and I have had the “what are we doing in Bethlehem” talk a number of times. We’ve found out repeatedly, and often years later, that we have had a positive affect on many people along the way, and we didn’t have any idea that we had made any difference at the time. Brook and I ride bikes, and wave to people a lot. We’ve had people stop us and thank us for waving to them on a day when they felt lonely. We made them smile and got them through a hard day. We have sometimes bought peoples’ groceries at the supermarket. We found out months later that one of these people had gotten a cancer diagnosis and had prayed for a sign that God still cared. We were the answer God sent, and had no idea. So, I agree with Jeff in suggesting that we should “do something”. In our case, “doing something” has proven to be a valued service to others, and that has an importance more far reaching than we will ever know. If you are living well,  you are probably also being effective beyond your knowledge. Be godly, and you will make a difference.

My First 2 Book Endorsements

renoir cathedral

I got my first 2 book endorsements today. I have to confess, it was more emotional that I would have guessed. I was crying about the first one when the 2nd came in. The first one was from “Father Bill” of Caron Treatment Centers. This is a really big deal~! This man is nothing short of amazing. He is to rehab priests what Mick Jagger is to Rock-n-Roll. When I got off the phone with Father Bill, I felt full of electricity, and like I had been hanging out with a rock-star. In the Halls of Heaven, Father Bill is certainly a pillar~!

As I was all full-up from the astounding news of that endorsement. I got my second endorsement from Jonathan Welton. This guy is incredible, too. He is a spiritual seer, like he can see angels and demons, and more~! I have read his books, and seen him in TV interviews, but I also know him and have had many great conversations with him. He is funny and engaging…. full of information and resources. He gave Brook and me the best book on healing that I have ever read. Just walked up and handed it to us~! He has a powerful ministry, and keeps taking it the the next level. (GO JONATHAN~!) Click this link to go to Jonathan’s page. He is the best selling author of School of the Seers, Eyes of Honor, and Normal Christianity.

“I am so impressed with this book. I can’t wait to get it into the hands of patients, and onto the shelves of the Caron Book Store. Laurie, keep in touch, and God bless your work.”

I have excitedly awaited the release of Fortify My Life, by Laurie Hayden Bergey. Finally we have an excellent introductory book regarding the main characters of scripture, written in easy to read language and accessible to all readers. This book will be the kind that you need to buy a boxful and keep on hand for old friends and new believers. Laurie is a dear friend and someone I watched grow over the last decade, I wholeheartedly encourage you to check out this book.

Beautiful Abandoned Places | Nature Pictures

I have dreams that I am running through beautiful abandoned places. In the dreams, I am in awe of the beauty, and energized by running; I never want to stop. I have never been able to duplicate this feeling in the real world, with the exception of one bike ride I went on 8 years ago. Well, imagine my delight when I found a website with 33 beautiful abandoned places. I agree with the curator of that site: they are awe inspiring, and yet melancholic. I have included a sampling of the the photos here, and a link below. I also found that if one googles the names of these places, there are other stunning photos available. I’d like to see more of Nara Dreamland and San Fruttuosa~! But, life is busy. So, this is it for today.

Painting on Tree Trunks

I love a link I stumbled upon this morning~! This is a person who is on a mission to bring people joy, even though there is no financial compensation in it for her. I’m so proud of her. I wanted to share her passion with you~! The article reads: “23-year-old student Wang Yu lives and works in the Chinese district of Shijiazhuang. As canvas for her paintings she uses trees. For each artwork this young artist spends about two hours, but aesthetic pleasure for passers lasts much longer.”

Cailey’s True Story

This is a cute story told by a 6 year old.

She has drawn sketches to go with the story.

I am impressed by this collection. I wonder what she will be like as an adult. When I asked Cailey’s mom if I could blog her story, she said, “Sure! Especially if you ask your readers to pray for us both, lol.” I think this Mommy has a smart and adventurous child to guide into adulthood~!

Mommy came downstairs from work and saw Dylan sitting on the couch eating Cheezits and asked “Who said that you could have Cheezits?” Dylan replied “Cailey told me that you said we could have them.” Mommy said “Where is Cailey??”Kid drawing

Cailey was happy playing outside on the patio when she heard Mommy calling for her inside the house.

Mommy was very upset and said “Cailey, you know you’re supposed to ask for food, and you know that you’re not allowed outside without an adult!” Cailey was sad.Pencil drawing by child

Cailey cried, sad and alone, on her bed during her timeout.

After her timeout, Mommy came into Cailey’s room. Cailey apologized and Mommy reminded her that she needs to ask permission for her safety and to help her learn how to make good decisions. They gave each other a hug and kiss. Then they ended with their familiar exchange: Cailey said “I love you” and Mommy said “I love you more.” Cailey replied “I love you most.” And Mommy said “I love you MORE than most.” It went on like that as they walked down the stairs together.
